Main Function: The Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer is an individual qualified by professional credentialing and academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. Actively supports
the mission, goals, and objectives of the Health System.


Required Job Specific Competencies:

oThe Cardiac Sonographer performs patient assessments, acquires and analyzes data obtained using ultrasound and related diagnostic technologies, provides a summary of findings to the physician to aid in patient diagnosis and management and uses independent
judgment and systematic problem solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic information and optimize patient care.

oDemonstrates the ability to work independently and exhibits flexibility in decision making and prioritizing assignments.

oDemonstrates the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with all health system teams and medical staff.

oActively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to the patients, staff and the health system.

oPrevious experience in Holter monitor application and evaluation, stress testing, and EKG's preferred.

oMust be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess
data reflective of the patient's status and interpret each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs and to the care of the patient.

oDemonstrates computer knowledge and skills including but not limited to the various modules involved in scheduling, ordering, resulting and charging cardiology examinations.

oActively supports hospital goals and imperatives and lives the CARES values at all times.







Requirements
Qualifications


Education:

oMinimum high school diploma required and satisfactory completion of formal CAHEA recognized ultrasonic training program or equivalent clinical experience required. A.A.S. degree preferred or two years of college with emphasis on the biological sciences.

oMaintains professional credentials specifically related to echocardiography and participates in continuing education activities through professional societies and organizations.


Experience: Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDCS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (RCS) or registry eligible. Previous experience in health care setting required. Demonstrated ability to perform EKG's,
stress testing and Holter monitor scanning (or equivalent skills and training) preferred. Basic CPR and ACLS training required or to be completed within 3 months of hire.


Complexity of Duties:

oUses independent professional judgment to adapt the procedure plan to optimize exam results. Adjusts scanning technique to optimize image quality. Analyzes sonographic findings throughout the exam assuring complete and sufficient data to the physician in order
to render a final diagnosis


Supervisory Responsibility/Supervision Received:

oPerforms procedure under general or direct supervision, as defined by the procedure.

oReports directly to the Clinical Coordinator of the Cardiology department.
