Chip Holt Nature Center Program Assistant - Lakeville, NY
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Livingston County has an opening for a part-time Chip Holt Nature Center Program Assistant located in Lakeville, NY
I. Summary
Chip Holt Nature Center Summer Program provides nature-based educational activities and programs for youth and their parent/guardian. The Chip Holt Nature Center Program Assistant will assist with program planning and delivery. The Chip Holt Nature Center Program Assistant will assist with daily set-up and clean up.
II. Duration
Chip Holt Nature Center Summer Program includes two days of training and set up on June 21 & 22 2018; one day to clean and close-up the Summer Program on August 6th; and 6 weeks of programming from June 25th to August 3rd. Program runs daily Monday to Friday from 9 am to 12 pm.
III. Specific Responsibilities 100%
* Assist Chip Holt Nature Center Program Coordinator with program implementation
* Present programming that teaches youth and their parent/guardian about environmental science and natural resources
* Actively engage and supervise program participants
* Assist with program preparation and clean up
* Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard
* Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified
* Appreciate and embrace diversity in all interactions with staff and the public
IV. Qualifications
* Minimum 1 year of combined college education and experience in environmental education, natural resources management, biology, environmental studies, or related field
* Mature personality with excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
* Well organized and ability to coordinate multiple tasks
* Proficient computer skills - Excel, Word, and Power Point
* Demonstrate an interest in environmental work and understanding of program-related issues through education, volunteer work, and/or hobbies
* Ability to work independently and responsibly with minimal supervision
* Ability to meet acceptable background check standards
* Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position
* Ability to transport/move supplies and equipment with or without accommodation
* Current certification for CPR and First Aid is preferred
* Ability to clearly communicate and to read and write in Spanish is preferred
* Experience in natural resource programming for youth is preferred
