CCE of Warren County Master Gardener Coordinator – Warrensburg
CCE of Warren County is seeking a full time 37.5 hours per week qualified and experienced incumbent to coordinate the Master Gardener Volunteer Program for CCE of Warren County. The coordinator recruits, trains and provides program support and professional development for Master Gardener ("MG") volunteers.
The coordinator also serves as a subject matter resource in the area of community horticulture, utilizing existing research based university or extension resources.

## ****Required Qualifications****
* Bachelor's degree in plant science, horticulture or related field. An Associate Degree in plant science, horticulture or related field plus 2 yrs. transferrable program/functional experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
* Experience relevant to the role of this position including in plant science, horticulture, volunteer management and program marketing.
* Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate volunteers.
* Demonstrated ability to prepare presentations and teach individuals of all ages.
* Demonstrated experience in running meetings and planning events for the public.
* High level of organizational skills.
* Experience with MS Office Suite, especially Word, Excel and Outlook.
* Ability to meet regular travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.
* Ability to meet background check requirements.
* Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
* Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written (newsletters, email, etc.) and visual channels using traditional methods and educational tools, as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, social media, etc.).
* Ability to regularly work in outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
* Ability to regularly lift, move or transport supplies and equipment, including climbing stairs and/or in outdoor/gardening settings with or without reasonable accommodation.

## ****Preferred Qualifications****
* Three years of experience as a landscaper/gardener.
* Knowledge of annual, perennial and woody ornamentals and their use in the landscape.
* Knowledge of invasive species and best management practices.
* Skill in using websites, writing press releases, and other marketing and communication skills.
## ****Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions****
Program Responsibilities:
****Program Delivery - 10%****
* Teach the existing educational program as defined.
* Assist with teaching innovative, high quality Horticulture educational programs that address identified programming priorities.
* Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning to deliver program.
* Serve as subject matter resource in the area of horticulture utilizing existing subject matter resources and connection to Cornell faculty, Regional Cornell Teams, local organizations and partner agencies.
* Collaborate with community agencies as requested or required to facilitate programs and activities, such as community gardens.
* Foster acceptance of horticultural best practices, program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.
* Train new volunteers on subject matter and provide professional development for existing volunteers.
* Interact and communicate with program participants and volunteers in a variety of ways, including face-to-face, e-mail, telephone and social media in order to answer questions, facilitate learning and develop and maintain good rapport.
* Occasionally preform/demonstrate horticulture/gardening techniques for targeted audiences to help foster acceptance of community horticulture program.
* Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery.
Administrative Responsibilities:
****Direction - 5%****
* Assist supervisor with limited-complexity administrative tasks in the planning of educational programs.
* Assist with development of marketing strategies, public affairs and special events to reach target audiences and meet program objectives.
* Assist in identifying community and fiscal resources for program continuance and enhancement.
* Provide supervisor with program related information to assist the budget development process.
* Provide input in planning the structure of delivering community horticulture educational programs via various methods.
****Management - 10%****
* Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the operation of the horticulture and gardening programs, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures related to volunteer management and goals.
* Provide direction and give guidance to MG volunteers, as well as monitor the performance of MG volunteers utilizing association volunteer management program tools.
* Perform tasks related to MG volunteer management responsibility, including planning individuals' special contributions based on their skills as applicable.
* Recruit and orient new volunteers.
* Assist with identifying, anticipating, recommending and planning for Horticulture and Master Gardener Program needs/supplies.
* Assist in identifying ways to reduce costs and maximize existing resources within the Association.
****Coordination/Operation - 70%****
* Maintain and prepare teaching materials necessary for Horticulture program applying existing subject matter knowledge. Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.
* Schedule volunteer events, meetings and trainings to foster contact and relationship building within Master Gardener volunteer base.
* Participate in special projects including but not limited to volunteer trainings, Fundraising, enrollment campaign, and other extension association activities, as assigned.
* Maintain communication with constituents and the community through a variety of methods such as contributing educational articles to program newsletters, media releases, bulk mailings, social media accounts, media interviews, website postings to increase program visibility and to address issues.
* Assist with coordination of marketing and promotion of Horticulture programming through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational and other organizations.
* Provide administrative support for the coordination and implementation of multi-media efforts in the promotion of programming.
* Coordinate and assist with special projects and outreach efforts as required by Supervisor.
* Track and record volunteer activity.
* Maintain Master Gardener database.
* Assist with program evaluation by collecting evaluation and needs assessment data from program participants based on existing evaluation framework and guidelines.
* Coordinate Horticulture and Master Gardener fundraisers
* Coordinate Master Gardener educational seminars including venue reservation, scheduling registration, etc.
* Coordinate administrative tasks related to Consumer Horticulture Education events.
* Coordinate and schedule Master Gardener Volunteers for proper maintenance of Extension Gardens, which serve as outdoor classrooms.
* Maintain records and complete required reporting.
* Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as necessary.
* Provide moderately complex administrative tasks in the implementation of the budget to include, but not limited to assisting with allocating budget amounts and providing input for the preparation of the budget. Prepare and submit expense report.
* Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
* Travel to various locations in an effort to meet program material and marketing needs. Examples include but are not limited to purchasing and/or delivering program materials, taking pictures and notes, etc.
* On a regular basis transports self, also frequently lifting, moving and/or transporting program materials and resources to community based settings.
****Professional Improvement - 5%****
* In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
* Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
****Health and Safety - Applied to all duties and functions.****
* Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
* Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
